You should never underestimate how your own attention, you own focus, impacts your organization.
In the movie (about a baseball player), “For the Love of the Game,” there is a moment when Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner’s character) goes 3-0 on a hitter in his quest for a perfect game. He has lost his focus and can’t seem to throw a strike. In that moment, he vividly remembers playing catch with his Dad who would just say, “Come on Billy, just look at the bit – throw to the mitt.” – oh, and he hit the mitt, regained his focus and got his perfect game eventually.
If you aimless, your team will be a hot mess
When you feel a bit aimless, without clear focus on on what you are doing, I can tell you that this will filter down to your team. They look where you are looking so to speak. If you are constantly changing directions, moods, energy, intentions – I can promise you that your organization will stagnate as a “hot mess.”
Focus on the Mitt
To have focus, you have to step back and decide what is truly important at this stage of your business to drive success. To put focus into action, you have to lead intentionally and clearly, communicating to your team the outcomes that will create success for you, for them, and for the business as a whole.
Where is your focus today? Do you feel unsure of the next steps? Do you have a clear purpose in your leadership actions? Are you looking at the mitt?
If you have lost your focus, or want to get more focused on what will drive success in your business, let’s sit down and assess what is getting in your way and your way forward. –
